I am surrounded by pregnant women! I think winter has nothing better to offer dull married’s than the prospect of making babies! There! I sound like a bitter old spinster facing a life perpetuated by madness and cats!
No, seriously, a quiet week in the office and no less than four pregnancies have left me with a wealth of knowledge about fashion and maternity, and I do have to feel sorry for those facing a summer of swollen ankles and alcohol free pub gardens.
So I will point you in the direction of good old Dorothy Perkins who are doing a great line in smock tops (pictured)and jeans and Blooming Marvellous who do the type clothes you will want if you are a Gap kinda girl. Topshop as always have an amazing range, but I always talk about them and you should know by now to have a look, even if your hormones are all over the place!
And this is also a really good time to give our sister site Babymojo a good plug for those of you that are near to d-day.
So news hit last week that Monsoon are taking Primark to Court over 6 items that they have allegedly ripped off from the their summer collection.
Now, I am seriously in a bit of a quandary over this one. You see, in my other life I am scaling the dizzy heights of design, and I would be the most angriest person in angry land if someone was taking my desirable objects of beauty (I may trademark that!) and sending them to some sweatshop to make cheap copies and big profits.
However saying that, is the realm of throw away fashion not all about dissemination of design? The high end High Street rips off the catwalks by changing a button here and there and covering up any bits of flesh we, as mere mortals, may not be able to show off like Gisele.
So why shouldn't the bargain basement end of the high street pinch off the top end if, they are, after all just pinching off someone else? Those catwalk guru's are, lets face it, probably re-hashing a time gone by and pillaging the local second hand stores for inspiration!
I remember a time when a pair of Levi 501s were cheap as chips. And then companies such as Diesel and Chipie (stop laughing, we all had a pair) stepped in to show that a pair of jeans were more then a pair of jeans, with a price to match. Now it's all about the premium denim, think, Blue Cult, Earnest Sewn, True Religion, etc, honestly you can't make these names up. The New York Times has caught the wave and have an article about the whole premium market - worth a read if you're thinking about spending $600 on a pair of jeans. Next.
Chip and Pepper denim (named after the founders twin brothers Chip and Pepper Foster) was only founded in 2003 although they appear to have been around for years. Damn their marketing Svengali. In any case we're thankful for their laid back LA attitude and relaxed styles. We particularly like this micro mini that's based on a cut-off pair of men's jeans - and we dig the name - BareBaller! Check their great new
website for more images and styles.
Ah.. it appears that Mr and Mrs Bono (and the designer Rogan Gregory) have teamed up to produce an environmentally friendly label called Edun, which is "nude" spelled backwards - oh how clever Mr Bono.
Edun is an environmentally friendly label with manufacturing based in third world counties. The goal is to create jobs in developing nations by establishing stable factories, paying fair wages and rejecting child labour. So we'll stop with the sarcasm and appluad the earnest Bonos.
The casual collection of jeans, T-shirts, chiffon dresses and shrunken blazers available from March at Selfridges in the UK and Saks Fifth Avenue in the US.
It appears Stella doesn't want to sacrifice her sport for style or was it style for sport, we forget. Regardless Adidas have cross branded with Stella McCartney to produce a 'functional sport performance range for women'. It all looks very nice and er.. sporty and should already be in stores.
It's all fur gilets, poncho's and stoles this winter, but if you fancy something a little less 'mutton dressed as lamb' then this Epice scarf could be just the thing to keep things under wraps.
Epice goods are available in Browns of South Molton Street or on-line at www.brownsfashion.com

G-Star launched their Marc Newson collection in Tokyo last week. And unlike his shoes for Nike, his clothing may appeal to a broad audience. Although I must admit that if you wear the white jacket and jeans together you'll look like a Jetsons character.
The collection will be available for the public from December via Colette, Selfridges and a few of their brand stores.
